In a remote retreat in the Swiss Alps, surrounded by a collection of weapons, vials of poison, and her own dark thoughts, lives Patricia Highsmith (played by Academy Award winner Helen Mirren), the legendary yet fiercely formidable author of twisted mystery novels. Her solitary world is unexpectedly disrupted by an unwanted visitor: Edward (Alden Ehrenreich), a young and ambitious representative from a New York publishing house. His mission is to convince the famous writer, at any cost, to pen one final novel about her most famous creation - Tom Ripley, the charming, cold-blooded manipulator and killer.

However, the author sets a strict condition: Edward must plan the perfect murder and step inside the mind of a killer. Provoking him and pushing him to the brink of madness, she delves into the darkest corners of his past. Meanwhile, the audience is drawn into a dual narrative where the real-world blurs with their own blossoming criminal story - a tale filled with passion, deceit, and murder about an ordinary guy who meets a wealthy girl and is determined to seize her family's fortune.
