Introverted and shy teenager Naim (Joe Bird, Talk to Me), along with his cold, strictly devout mother (Mia Wasikowska), moves to a remote, fanatically religious town in the Australian outback. His only solace becomes a charismatic local boy named Ryan (Stacy Clausen), and a forbidden romance soon blossoms between the two. However, in this isolated community, such love is not merely a sin—it is a curse. When their secret is exposed, the town elders resort to a radical and brutal blood ritual in a desperate bid to "cure" the boys. But instead of salvation, they awaken a far more terrifying dark force.

As inexplicable and macabre events begin to unfold, the boys realize they are being watched. They are soon hunted by a menacing demonic entity that uses the cruelest weapon imaginable to lure its victims: it steals the face, voice, and touch of the person they love the most.
