He was one of the most important writers of the twentieth century and at the same time an ordinary civil servant – a genius whose surname has long since become not only an adjective but an entire genre, and a son who always lived in the shadow of his father. Franz Kafka is a figure of such magnitude that it is simply impossible to tell everything about him: Polish director Agnieszka Holland portrays the many roles that shaped Franz, the faces that were too small for him, and the ideas for which he himself was too small.
