Mariano De Santis is the president of the Italian Republic. He has no connection to any real president; this character is a figment of the director's imagination. De Santis is a widower and a Catholic, and he has a daughter, Dorotea, who, like him, is a legal expert. His term of office is coming to an end, and two final tasks creep into his monotonous daily routine – to make decisions on two requests for clemency. Two moral dilemmas are so intertwined with his private life that it seems impossible to untangle them. He is plagued by doubts, but he will have to make a decision, and with a deep sense of responsibility. This is exactly what the distinguished Italian president will do.
The film is in Italian with subtitles in Latvian and Russian.
